Fire and Wood

I have these three social networking accounts namely Twitter, Facebook and Instagram that I, most of the time update everything important that you should know and post anything that I would randomly think or even share some good reads that I've read. Most of the time, I post and update the same thing to the three sites but often times, I only post to twitter and fb, or only to either and sometimes post to instagram alone. And that should definitely be one very important thing that my loyal readers should know. So follow me now! (I might have my first giveaway for the year) *wink wink!

Today's post is an idea of the perfect "lucky" outfit for the Chinese New Year this coming Friday. And mind you when the word lucky is said, it usually means that black is not allowed! Black may be a very trendy color this season and I'm pretty sure that most of you love black (I'd be honest enough to say that I am as well!), but let's just give black a hall pass this Friday, okay? The Chinese side of my family has so many traditional beliefs and the Chinese new year is not an exception to do or follow them. I've actually adopted what I've learned from my family and manage to update myself yearly as well. I just hope that my siblings will do the same especially my sister, who has adopted the Filipino culture more than I have. Haha!

I guess you've noticed my photo logos haven't changed yet. We're actually still working on it since we've experienced problems and I can't just delay this post for everyone. #Dedicated You're welcome! Moving on, red (for fire) is obviously a must every Chinese new year because it represents luck and since the year 2014 is the year of the wooden horse, I decided to pair this over sized cashmere cardigan with a cognac brown maxi skirt from H&M taking cue from the wooden horse. Isn't it the perfect match and didn't I do what I said on Instagram few weeks ago? lol! I was having quite a hard time looking for any footwear that I could pair in this whole look because I only brought four pairs that I could occasionally change when I got here last October and the rest of my footwear are left back at home so I had to go through my mom's shoesies and luckily, I found something that's not black!

Xin Nian Kuai Le!!!

What do you think about my look?

Street Sailor in Olympia

If you followed me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, I'm pretty sure you've noticed me tweet and post some photos about Olympia few days ago. I'm sure not all of you knew (but if you did, great!) that USA celebrated Martin Luther King day last Monday and according to my mom's co-worker, almost all the Catholic group around Washington State do a gathering every after Martin Luther King day at the Washington State Capitol which is located at Olympia. The purpose of the gathering is about "Pro-Life" linked to the main problem of abortion here in the United States. But! Before you react violently (yes, I needed that exclamation point Lol), I'm not going to discuss about it here in my blog and neither let it be an argument here. Basically, my mom's co-worker asked us (my Mom and I) to go with her just to experience it and support as well since we're also Catholic by religion. I actually see it more as an opportunity to explore some parts of Olympia (since it's the capital city of Washington State) and of course, take touristy outfit shots! Haha.

Before we proceed to my outfit, let me give you a brief knowledge about the Washington State Capitol. When I first saw the capitol, it reminded me of the city halls back at home where local politicians' offices are found and government employees work. I'm pretty sure there's not quite big difference. WSC or also known as the Legislative Building is the home of the government of Washington State. And mind you, there were some politicians who were there to speak about the said topic too. I guess the elections will be happening soon. There were so many people who supported in all sorts of ages. It was a great experience.

Honestly, I didn't really know the exact things we would do that day until it was happening. Haha! So as safe as I could, I just thought of making up a theme for the day and I gladly ended in a street sailor one. Navy blue, heather gray, white, yellow, and red, are simply one of the hues that reminded me of the 90's hit cartoon character Sailor Moon. Don't you, too? The only difference is that, she wears a skirt and I on the other hand wear trousers, she's a cartoon character and I'm real. It's something that would fit in our different worlds. lol!

The colors in my look were so loud that I decided to tone down on my accessories. I picked gold since it was a good pop and shimmer without over doing the loudness of the colors in my outfit. And there was sunlight too, which made my street sailor look more appropriate 'cause what is sailor when there's no sunlight? Okay, okay I made that up but you get the point.

What do you think about this look?
P.S. I did gain weight. Psshh! More yoga!

If I Were at the Festival

This is me, feeling so down and sad because I prayed the novena for days and yet I couldn't celebrate the festival. During days like these, the decorations around my city (Cebu) especially at the Fuente and Mango Ave. area are super vibrant and fun that even if it's still few days away, it reminds you everyday not to forget one of the biggest festivals in the city in honor of the Holy Child Jesus! Yes, you got it, I'm talking about #Sinulog2014! How could someone from Cebu forget and not feel bad not having to attend it? It's okay, there's still next year. Blah. LOL! Okay my drama slash rant is done.

Few days ago, I've had quite a ton of emails and requests (feel free at zthegirlwhothoughtofstyle@gmail(dot)com and yes, this is a new one) about the perfect outfits for Sinulog and what I would wear if I could attend the event this year, and this is just my response to all of that.

Since the #SinulogFestival is all about the street dancing, walking, street parties and more walking at the streets! lol but no kidding! Flats, loafers, sneakers or anything feet friendly is the best choice. Most Sinulog days are sunny but ever since global warming happened, it could get rainy too. So this is why I piled this waterproof look! (Yes, that's what I call it haha) Too much leather isn't heat friendly and that's the reason why leatherettes were made but leather shorts are obviously safe. If you're like me who likes to keep things interesting or the conservative ones, opt for see through's or mesh like my top. Go for minimal accessories and those that will make you move easily and keep you safe of course! Crime isn't an exception on events like these and I don't want any of my readers to experience any! A small bag would be perfect with only the impotant things needed inside, if you have it in leather also or anything waterproof type, that would be awesome! We're seriously all for waterproof and paint proof (for the street party people) for now even in make up. lol! When it comes to make up, basics will never fail you (reason why I love them forevs) but a pop of color wouldn't be bad at all. It's a festival anyway, right? Hope I've answered and helped all your needs! But if not, let me know by placing a comment below, it would gladly be answered! Enjoy and stay safe at the same time!!
